Aries is the first sign of the Zodiac and is most associated with the symbolof the rams horns

Aries governed for two millennia, from 2000BD-0AD and perfectly displays the traits typical of the sign. With a tendency towards confrontation, they are both extroverts with a love for adventure.

Dominated by the rise and expansion of the Greek and Roman civilisations, this was a period of human history in which military might and physical power played an extremely important role. With much of the known world under Roman rule and expansion, arena-based entertainment like the Olympic games and Gladiator contests were frequented by people of all ages and classes. Like the Roman roads, Aries is straight and direct.

The age of Aries proceeded the god-like kings of Egyptians to a more secular form of leadership that mirrored the emphasis on individuality with a belief that we can, and should, stand on our own two feet. Another important trait of an Arian is their love of democracy and justice. It was the age of Aries that saw the rise in government and legal systems which many Western democratic laws are still firmly based.

 The Key Traits of Aries

Aries is the first sign of the Zodiac. Ruled by Mars, Arians are impulsive and fiery, sharing an infinity with everything that is influenced by the God of War. Renowned for their boundless energy and enthusiasm, and their positive attitude is an inspiration to others. Achievement is of utmost importance to them and their drive to succeed is a defining trait. At times the Arian fire can feel like a double-edged sword but luckily the more forwarned, the better to deal with Aries’ boundless energy. If contained, Arian passion can be channelled into several worthy causes, harnessing their enthusiasm, and desire to win, for the good of all the Zodiac signs.

Aries is ruled by Mars the red planet, named for the Roman god of War, Mars gives Aries its passion, courage, fiery temper and associations with strength and force. Thanks to Mars, the associations with Aries are based around the colour red and include flowers and gemstones. Strong flavours and smells like garlic, onion, hot chilli and mustard are also represented by Aries. Their aggressive traits are often represented by predatory animals such as tigers and hawks.

Birthstones

Arians rarely change their mind which is why the diamond is a symbol of lasting life. The heat needed to turn carbon into diamond is said to be equal to the force needed to change an Arian’s mind.

Garnet and rubies are among the red stones associated with Aries. Wearing these stones set in gold or silver reinforces Arian traits, such as bravery and strength. These will help the wearer to win any conflict. Wearing these stones over your heart is a good way to draw on their energies.

Flowers

Aries is both a hot and dry sign like its ruling planet Mars so the types of flowers that grow in these conditions are associated with Aries. Thistles and Nettles with their pointed leaves or thorns are typical Arian plants.

Geraniums and poppies are bright red and are also typical of Arians. having a vase of these vibrant flowers placed in the room can help to accentuate the strengths of Arians.

Animals

Predatory animals that are known for their strength and ability to fight and move with speed, such as the fox, hawk, tiger and wolf are associated with Aries. Using images of animals associated with your sign, for example in jewellery, allows you to express your inner nature in a public way.

Foods

Garlic, mustard, and onions with their distinctive taste, along with other foods associated with Aries are those that have a penetrating, bitter, sharp or burning flavour. They reflect the hot and dry nature of Aries and the cutting characteristics of its ruling planet Mars.
